I think the cracks depicted are in the compound curved castings of the bell housing between the front of the tranny (where the shift selector shaft is) and the engine block. Will be interesting to hear the diagnoses. Was the transmission replaced with a new one or rebuilt? Alignment or loose mounts "could" be a possibility for contributing to what happened, but they would have to be WAY out of adjustment.

The crack I see in the transmission case probably also came from the inside. Replace the spin-on fluid filter (P/N 29539579). Replace the fluid filter located inside the oil pan (P/N 29537965). Clean the transmission oil pan thoroughly inside and out. Something has to Contact It (usually from the inside) ie. To reduce the possibility of setting a DTC P1711/P0872 when repairing a cracked adapter housing, the following five steps should taken: 1. A housing is just that ( A HOUSING) it has no mechanical function other than covering some working parts and providing correct spacing between those working parts. There may be a crack in the bell housing as well, but two things to keep in mind. I see a crack in the transmission itself which is of course why the fluid dropped. From what I see in the pics (which is kind of hard to tell).
